FAQs

If I pledge funds and apply for membership but don’t get accepted, do I get to keep my funds?
Yes, you keep it all.

How long does it take for me to become a member?
We have DAO meetings every Tuesday where we discuss every proposal that is put forward to the DAO. Shortly after, either your proposal will be submitted onchain or further due diligence is done. We’ll immediately be in touch with you after the meeting. So roughly 1-2 weeks to become a member.

  • What have you worked on / how have you contributed to the Web 3.0 ecosystem?

My background is in computer engineering UI/UX and project management. I built a number of startups in the mobile space over the past 12 years, all focused on consumer markets. My products have gained tractions of millions of subscribers and billions of page views.

I am a partner in a crypto fund that is fundamentally long on Ethereum, and we invest in products in the DeFi space.

I founded a developer accelerator program where I educate developers on the importance of building DeFi products on Ethereum, our first two products, a portfolio calculator for Uniswap and Compound can be found here.

I firmly believe that in order for Ethereum to be successful, project founders must be educated on how to build compelling products for mass market adoption. My experience in product design, project management, UI/UX, onboarding funnels, Lean Startup methodology and data driven product iteration will add significant value to MetaCartel. I outlined the value proposition I feel can be expressed through MetaCartel in this document,

  • work for Parity as a Rust developer; focus on governance and mechanism design in Substrate – work is open source

  • implementing Moloch on Substrate, sunshine

Previously

  • studied economics and cryptography at University of Virginia (UVA) before leaving in February to work for Parity on Substrate

  • taught undergraduate class, Introduction to Blockchain, and started the blockchain club at UVA

  • interned for Hyperledger and Blockmatics; volunteered for RadicalxChange

2. Why do you want to join MetaCartel DAO?

  • participate in DAO experiments, build a community

  • drive fund coordination experiments with DAOs

  • support team-building and product development for better governance over public goods

Over the next few years, I expect protocol layer improvements (increased scalability, easier upgradability, etc) to foster increasingly flexible and dynamic economic mechanisms at the application layer. I am optimistic that these applications will enable scaled coordination beyond the primitive group thresholds achieved by existing DAOs. With this in mind, I am very excited about using fund coordination DAOs to manage governance of public goods and mitigate the tragedy of commons, especially as it pertains to open source software.

    • Been helping build out the Ethereum community for years
    • Launched EthHub earlier this year and also do Into the Ether podcast
    • Currently working with Gnosis to build products for the Ethereum ecosystem

  2. Why do you want to join MetaCartel DAO?

    • It’s vitally important that we find ways to make Ethereum sustainable into the future and one of the ways to do this is finding funding mechanisms. DAOs have proven to be great ways to coordinate the raising of capital. I’m also part of MolochDAO but the idea of DAOs with a more specific approach such as MetaCartel really fascinates me.

I apply in the name of Gnosis. We work on decentralized exchanges, prediction market systems, and wallets (safe.gnosis.io). Earlier this year we developed and released the dxDAO with the goal to maintain and govern dApps on Ethereum starting with the dutchX protocol.

We are a big supporter of DAOs, which we believe will play a crucial role in the development and maintenance of the Ethereum ecosystem. Network effects are needed to make Ethereum succeed and these network effects are created by dApps. We need more experiments around dApps and we believe the MetaCartel DAO is a great place to incubate them.

I’m working at the MXC Foundation building a future data economy where DApps interact with IoT networks using LoRaWAN and I’d like to help improve standards for the community. I’m impressed open-source solutions like the new Gas Station Network (GSN) that’s trying to help improve the UX onboarding experience. I’m interested in building inter-chain bridges between DAOs and IoT networks. I’m interested in designing DAO governance and performance monitoring tools to incentivise IoT entrepreneurship.

  1. What have you worked on / how have you contributed to the Web 3.0 ecosystem?

  • I founded Axia Labs in 2017, a research & strategy company focused on cryptoeconomics, governance structures & industry best practices. Myself and the team have worked with over twenty clients over the past two years, helping thought leaders work towards a wide array of solutions.

  • Ecosystem growth & speaking in New Zealand & Australia, sitting as a committee member of the Blockchain Association of New Zealand for over 18 months; myself and Axia Labs have facilitated a number of events & spoken to institutions, startups & regulators about the web 3.0 ecosystem.

  • One of the things we aim for is to be an encyclopedia of dapps & tokens, spending a ridiculous amount of time playing with the majority of dapps, DAOs, defi products, NFT’s and tokens. This has led to a large variety of tokens & cryptokitties held and a significant amount of context about how the Web3 community interact with the ecosystem.

  • The MetaCartel seems to be super aligned with the vision of Axia Labs, building towards a more useable, developed & interesting Ethereum landscape. I’ve worked at Maker for 3 years. I created the Maker Oracles that are used in most DeFi projects. Lately I’ve become more interested in DAOs and the ecosystem in general, am a member of MolochDAO.

I want to help Ethereum and its surrounding projects be the best. That’s why I want to participate in as many DAOs as I can. If not directly involved, at least by supporting them financially.

✦ Founded VocadoVentures.com, a remote venture builder and accelerator that helps entrepreneurs with the ideation process, fundraise, recruiting, launch of the product and growth strategies.

I have personally nothing against you but as a DAO member, the only protection against selloutDAO coming in is to block you I suppose. I applaud your self sacrifice to demonstrate to the world about the consequence of the betrayal (or if you get in, you successfully demonstrate another weak point of MolochDAO design and game theory). I just put my precious 1 share to vote against you but curious to see what other people would act (or more likely no one acts on anything).

This is a great learning experience for running my own DAO.

Truth is… I’m not sure yet. First version of SelloutDAO has come and gone (it was a one off), and it’s gonna take me some time to code a better second version.

Can’t promise I won’t do it!
